The group of Pacific island nations examined in this book consists of Fiji, Kiribati, Marshall Islands, Micronesia, Palau, Papua New Guinea, Samoa, the Solomon Islands, Tonga, Tuvalu, and Vanuatu, all of which are members of the IMF. Timor-Leste is also included, because it shares similar prospects and challenges with these Pacific island countries.
Participants in the conferences included finance ministers, central bank governors, and other policymakers from the region, as well as officials from international financial institutions and regional agencies (the Asian Development Bank, the IMF, the Pacific Forum Secretariat), representatives of major bilateral donors (Australia, China, the European Union, Japan, Korea, New Zealand), leading academics, and private sector representatives.
