John F. Kennedy

Abstract

This is the second time that I have had the opportunity to welcome you to Washington, and I do so with the greatest pleasure and satisfaction. Yours is a very vital role in the defense of the free world. Your contribution to financial and economic stability among the nations of the world is essential, and the results of these efforts will determine in a very large measure whether or how much each nation can use our resources, generous as they are, in the best interests of all of our people.

John F. Kennedy

Abstract

This is my first opportunity to take part in your Annual Meetings and to welcome you here to Washington—and I do so with genuine pleasure. For you are concerned with the problems which have been among my primary concerns since the day I took office exactly 20 months ago; and in that time I have learned how vital a role is played by the International Monetary Fund and the International Bank for Reconstruction and Development and its affiliated institutions. The work of the International Development Association is particularly important, and this country fully supports the proposal that the Executive Directors develop a program to increase its resources.

Lyndon B. Johnson

Abstract

I am glad to meet with you again and to wish you well at this meeting and in your working sessions throughout this year.

International Monetary Fund. Secretary's Department

Abstract

It is a great personal privilege to welcome to our country and to our capital city the Governors of the International Bank, the International Monetary Fund, and the International Finance Corporation. We are honored by the presence of such distinguished company in our midst. I think that in these days and times it would not be amiss for me to say that the welcome I assure you is not perfunctory. We are delighted you are here. We are more than pleased that you have again assembled to tackle problems through your daily meetings that are important to the whole world. So I assure you that the welcome, both officially and personally, is a very warm and sincere one.

Harry S. Truman
