Abstract

The strengthening of the European Community’s financial services market is an essential aim of its internal market program. Already, full liberalization of capital movements has been achieved, legislation regarding the banking sector is in place,1 and the target of full economic and monetary union is in view. A breakthrough in EC relations with the countries of the European Free Trade Association took the form of an agreement that creates a common European financial area.2
