Abstract

In centrally planned economies, economic reforms refer to measures aimed at decentralizing decision making on prices and quantities, and giving market forces a more active role. The objective of such reforms is to effect a more efficient allocation of resources and a better balance between supply and demand. Since the mid-1980s, financial sector reforms have become important components of this overall process of economic liberalization, and the accompanying stabilization programs.
