In its preparations for the Swedish presidency in the Nordic Council of Ministers in 2008 the Swedish Ministry of Agriculture decided to focus on two issues, Climate Change and Bioenergy. Climate Change will have profound impact on the conditions for Nordic agriculture and the need for plant varieties adapted to changed conditions had been identified. Thus, a commission was given to investigate the need for collaborative efforts to strengthen Nordic plant breeding. This report has been delivered to the Nordic Council of Ministers in June 2009. At the summer meeting of the Nordic Ministers of Agriculture in Isafjørður, Iceland 2 July 2009 it was decided to give a working group the task to consider issues on the implementation of proposals given in this report.
